As of Saturday, October 14, 2023, at midnight, the St. Andrews Lock and Dam will be closed to marine vessels until summer navigation season opens in 2024. The actual date of reopening will depend on flow conditions.
To prepare for winter, PSPC staff will be adjusting the dam over the coming weeks commencing on October 15, allowing for a gradual lowering in water levels especially in the section of the Red River from Winnipeg and north to Lockport. Typically, the drawdown will take place over a period of approximately two weeks with the dam fully opened by the first week of November. Nevertheless, if winter arrives quickly or if flows pick-up significantly, PSPC staff may need to lift all remaining curtains with little notice, potentially causing a rapid change in water levels.
With this, we are reminding residents and boaters alike to complete their preparations to protect their property in anticipation of the seasonal lock closure and dam winter setting.
